20. Nancy Whitney⁵ Buttrick (Horatio⁴, Elizabeth³Blood, Elizabeth²Willard, Simon¹); married Oren Root, son of Elihu Root and Achsa Pomeroy.¹⁴

Oren Root was born in 1803.¹⁴ He died in 1885.¹⁴

The three known children of Nancy Whitney⁵ Buttrick and Oren Root were as follows:

21. i. Oren⁶ Root; born 18 May 1838 at Syracuse, New York;¹⁴ married Anna Julia Higgins, daughter of John Higgins, 2 December 1862 (Anna was "of Waterford, New York");¹⁴ married Ida Cecile Gordon,, daughter of John B. Gordon, as his 2nd wife, May 1867;¹⁴ married Anna Kay,, daughter of Chief-Justice R. D. Kay, as his 3rd wife, 16 December 1901 (Anna was "of Carrollton, Missouri");¹⁴ died after 1902.¹⁴
22. ii. Edward Walstein Root; born 4 July 1841 at Clinton, Oneida Co., New York;¹⁵ died 15 November 1870 at Clinton, Oneida Co., New York, at age 29.¹⁵
23. iii. Hon. Elihu Root; born 15 February 1845 at Clinton, Oneida Co., New York;¹⁶ died 7 February 1937 at New York, New York, at age 91.¹⁶
